Integrating Ultralytics YOLOv8 with 6G-BRICKS: Enhancing Real-Time Object Detection and Live Migration
Ultralytics has introduced YOLOv8, the latest iteration of its acclaimed real-time object detection and image segmentation model. Leveraging advancements in deep learning and computer vision, YOLOv8 delivers exceptional speed and accuracy. Its versatile design makes it adaptable to a wide range of applications, from edge devices to cloud APIs.
As part of the 6G-BRICKS project, Iquadrat integrated YOLOv8 to demonstrate intent-driven deployment and live migration using large language models (LLMs). Our aim was to replicate a real-world cloud-continuum scenario, utilizing YOLOv8 in both low-latency and high-latency nodes. However, integrating YOLOv8 proved challenging. Iquadrat customized the original Docker setup to enable the use of YOLO’s GUI applications within Docker containers. This adaptation allowed us to effectively showcase the capabilities of YOLOv8 in our demonstration.
Our contribution can be found here and is summarized in the following points:
• Enhanced Visualization Support: Added libsm6 to the Docker file, enabling QT-based windows for object visualization.
• Improved User Experience: Updated display checks for better error handling and clearer messages.
• Broader Compatibility: Enhanced compatibility with various platforms, making the software more accessible.
• Documentation Updates: Examples and instructions for using GUI applications in Docker containers.
