6G-BRICKS Contributions to 3GPP SA4: Enhancing XR Traffic for the Metaverse-Enabled Workplace
The 6G-BRICKS project has actively contributed to 3GPP SA4, focusing on optimizing Extended Reality (XR) traffic over 5G-Advanced networks, an important objective of the project, aimed at enabling immersive, low-latency applications such as the Metaverse-enabled Modern Workplace.
At the recent SA4#132 meeting (May 2025), Lenovo, a key partner in the project, submitted three contributions (see S4-250993, S4-251075, S4-251076) proposing enhancements to the Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP), a core enabler of immersive XR experiences. These enhancements target improved responsiveness, reduced latency, and dynamic traffic adaptation, supporting advanced use cases like the “Metaverse as an Enabler of a Modern Workplace” in 6G-BRICKS.
These standardization activities highlight the project’s commitment to improve the transport of XR traffic over 5G/6G networks and enhance the user experience.
